Winchester Distillery was established by Paul Bowler in 2014. It produces premium spirits and alcoholic concoctions inspired by the Hampshire countryside and its wealth of local botanicals.
Nestling at the western end of the South Downs Way and surrounded by rolling countryside and meandering chalk streams lies Winchester. It’s an ancient city rich in history and steeped in tradition.
At the Winchester Distillery we seek to enrich this heritage by crafting small-batch, premium spirits using traditional methods and local botanicals sourced from the surrounding landscape.
All of the Winchester Distillery products are made by hand in small batches using our closely-guarded recipes as a guide and the master distiller’s twisted nose to fine-tune each batch to perfection.
Winchester Distillery’s first gin was Twisted Nose. This small batch craft gin combines ten botanicals including locally grown watercress to create a spirit that is intense, fragrant and refreshing.
The watercress adds sweet herbaceous notes and a peppery sparkle to the finish that lifts a gin and tonic to new heights. We think it’s the most refreshing gin we’ve ever tasted. Though perhaps we’re just a little biased!
The Romans knew watercress as Nasturtium, meaning “twisted nose”, from which our gin takes its name. Serve with a good tonic and twist of pink grapefruit for the perfect gin and tonic or with Vermouth for an amazing Martini.
Our brand new gin, launched on world gin day 2017 at the great hall in Winchester. Hampshire Gin is our tribute to our home city. It was inspired by King Arthur’s round table hanging in the hall.
It uses 25 medieval botanicals commonly used in food and medicine in the period. One for each Knight seated at the table. With King Arthur himself on the throne at the head of the table represented by Juniper.
Hampshire Gin is rich and complex. It’s a unique gin with great depth of flavour. It has herbal nuances from the wide list of (secret) medieval botanicals.
For a deliciously rich G&T try mixing with Fever-Tree Mediterranean tonic. Garnish with sprigs of Rosemary & Thyme and wheel of lemon.
Hampshire Gin finished in 4th place in this year’s #HotCraftSpirits beating Twisted Nose’s 10th place last year.
