At 45 West Distillers, we craft spirits of adventure. Nestled deep in the Leicestershire countryside, the 45 West distillery, is a spirit lovers wonderland. Distilled by hand our products encompass what it is to be truly artisan.
45 West Distillers are more than just purveyors of great British spirits, we create aspirational brands, venues for true drink enthusiasts. We also offer a helping hand to those looking to enter the world of artisan distilling.
Nestled deep in the Charnwood Forest you will find Bawdon Lodge Farm, the home of the 45 West Distillery and Burleighs London Dry Gin. A beautiful location surrounded by vast countryside, it is here that Burleighs Gin master distiller, Jamie Baxter, found inspiration for the Burleighs London Dry Gin recipe.
Whilst walking through Burleigh wood adjacent to the distillery, Baxter came across silver birch, dandelion, burdock, elderberry and iris. Enthused by his find, these botanicals went on to inspire the first recipe and it seemed only fitting that this ancient Leicestershire woodland site also gave the gin its name.
A truly artisan creation, Burleighs London Dry Gin is distilled on our beautiful copper pot still nicknamed ‘Messy Bessy’. The 450 litre copper pot still was custom made for 45 West Distillers by Arnold Holstein of Markdorff, Germany. The design, the careful sourcing of ingredients and the skill of the distiller all contribute to the smooth nature of Burleighs Gin.
Burleighs Gin is distilled with 11 carefully selected botanicals including silver birch, dandelion, burdock and elderberries. The result is an incredibly smooth and balanced gin. It is perfect for a classic G & T with a twist of orange zest or freshly cut grapefruit.
Nose: crisp, fresh and vibrant with piney eucalyptus and bright citrus top notes
Palate: dry juniper freshness followed by pine, citrus zest and eucalyptus. Earthy, spicy and floral notes in the background
Finish: long and warming with Parma violet, pine, dry juniper and lavender
Burleighs Export Strength Gin (47% ABV) is expertly distilled to the same botanical recipe as our Signature Gin. Bottling at a higher ABV creates an expression of the recipe with a markedly different profile, perfectly suited to a Negroni cocktail, or a more robust and aromatic gin and tonic garnished with orange & basil.
Nose: bright juniper up front, backed up by sweet herbal notes
Palate: bold juniper in abundance, sweet floral spice, pine, pepper and citrus
Finish: long and dry with peppery warmth and lasting flavours of lemon and juniper
